Mallappally is the most literate village in India. Even in the 19th century it has earned a great reputation as a place of learning and a place of learned men. People from Mallappally occupied important positions in India and abroad in government and otherwise. The credit goes to the vision of the pioneers Luka Malpan Rev.George Mathen, Archdecon Oommen Mammen, Rev.W.O.Oommen etc.

Luka Malpan started the 1st teaching institution; he taught Syriac Rev.George Mathen started another one for English and Malayalam. He also started a school for slaves (Adima school) to import to them language skills. These institution became defeat.

These precursor to our educational institutions now, was started by Archdeacon Oommen Mammen in the parish hall. The parish hall still extends vicinity of our church. Muthuthottathu Mathen asan was the first teacher. CMS English Middle School was started 1868, which continued till 1921.

The credit of upgrading the institution goes to Rev.W.O.Oommen who became the vicar in 1916. The foundation stone of a new building at the present site was laid in 1920. Dr.A.T.Thomas gave the land. No aid was received from the center or aboard. It was wholly an enormous and splendid local effort. The school was under the management of the parish. Mr.K.V.Mathai was the first Headmaster; Mr.M.E.George became the second. Mr.T.G.Oommen is the present Headmaster there are35…Teachers and914Students.

The next stage in the development came when the school was upgraded into a Higher Secondary School in 1998 ……… A new multi storey building is now being constructed. Mrs.K.H.Sally is the Principal. There are.20 teachers and…540… students.
