Izhomariyil Itty kurien was the first graduate of the parish. He taught at the prestigious Madras Christian Collage. He died young in 1900. To honour his memory, the family donated Rs 1000/- to start a primary the I K M school (Itty Kurien memorial) school was started in 1904. To begin with it was I K M P G (Itty Kurien Memorial Primary Girls) school. It was only for girls as there was another one for boys. Later the boy’s school was merged with girl’s school and it became I K M School. Mr. P.K.Kuruvila, Mr. Varghese, Mrs.Achamma Thomas etc were Head teachers of the school. Mr. Geemon.C.Cherian is now the Headmaster of the school.
